Trump 2nd assassination attempt: Suspect never had line of sight, didn’t fire any shots | FULL
Florida’s Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI provided an update on Monday regarding the investigation into Sunday’s assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump.
The FBI said that the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, never had a line of sight on Trump and never discharged his firearm before or after he was met by gunshots from a Secret Service agent who noticed the rifle from the perimetre of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
It was also noted during the press conference that Trump did not have the round of golf on his schedule and the public should not have been aware that he was on the course.
The apparent assassination attempt comes just nine weeks after the Republican presidential nominee survived another attempt on his life.
Routh faces charges of possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Additional and more serious charges are possible as the investigation continues and prosecutors seek an indictment from a grand jury.
